"Melini achieves all the intensity and the trademarks of giallo with dramatic lighting, a creepy score, and floating camerawork which lends a dreamy quality" - "The Puzzle is a brisk, dark, suspenseful, and highly conceptual piece of horror experimentation able to transcend its brevity" - "The tension build up is excellent for such a short piece of work and you just know that something messed up is coming your way" - "This film leaves you with an unpredictable and shocking ending that reminds this reviewer of the days of such work as," The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery," with a flair of Alfred Hitchcock which makes it even more suspensful" - "His short inspires visions of an early Dario Argento in terms of lighting an atmosphere but with a mix of the fast paced and hyper kinetic style of something like that of David Fincher in Fight Club" - "The film is quite an interesting one with a mysterious slant, that no doubt comes from the filmmaker’s experience working with legendary Giallo director, Dario Argento" - "This is a beautiful short film. The atmosphere reminds one of Dario Argento’s SUSPIRIA (a very cool color tone)" - "Shot on an incredibly low budget of just 300 Euros, The Puzzle is an involving and well shot thriller featuring a terrific central performance by Noguera as the potentially ill-fated mother" - "The Puzzle, which is directed by Davide Melini, has been critically acclaimed in Italy, Spain, the USA and Denmark, to name but a few countries and it captures that creepy thriller essence that’s not always as easy to capture" - "Davide Melini has created a fine short film with The Puzzle" - "The film is very intriguing in other areas as well, the sound effects, how Melini builds up instant tension with the phone ringing and a confrontation- and some pretty impressive camera angles and shots" - "My jaw dropped when the whole thing finally put itself together, mostly because Melini has built a short, sharp and simple little film that delivers maximum punch from one great twist" - "A young up and coming Italian filmmaker; Davide Melini; has brought us a suspense film short that will keep you on the edge of your seat" - "Short, sweet and scary" - "Cachito Noguera who plays the mother. She in turn paranoid and absorbed in her mundane quest to finish her puzzle and she does a really good job in the final scene" - "I keep racking my brain to put together what it all means and what I just seen and I'm a little troubled by it's over all meaning BUT in a very GOOD way" - "The camerawork remains a delight throughout" - "The builtup tension and the twizzler twist has a flair for the Argento or even possibly some M. Night" - "Italian director David Melini's short horror thriller is a nice and entertaining little experimentation in destiny and prophecy" - "David Melini THE PUZZLE has a very well talented cast, very well directed and well shot" - "With a modern, Saw-style approach, “The Puzzle” is a fun little short with an ideal title" - "Toss in a few Matrix-esque 360 shots, and I was quite impressed" - "See if you can solve The Puzzle before it solves you" - "With a short time span of 5 minutes, “The Puzzle” takes the simple road. I have seen alot of these shorts, and to me, the ones that leave an impression are the ones that end on a more clever note. “The Puzzle” is one such short" - "It's tense and thrilling, incredibly atmospheric, beautifully filmed, full of great shots and pretty interesting camera angles. The editing is excellent, the soundtrack is powerful and the marvellous lighting makes the woman's little flat look very eerie" - "Most shorts rely on their ending to be remembered, and if that’s the case for most people, this will probably be a memorable film" - "Cinematography is pretty well done. Lights, darkness and interesting camera angles are used to great effect" - "The film is creepy as can be, and deliciously so, and it manages to keep up its tension from the first to last minute" - "The real Jigsaw killer!" - "Though the synopsis may not be very deep, this short shows that writer/director Melini knows how to handle a camera and is able to hold your attention for as long as need be" - "Though the synopsis may not be very deep, this short shows that writer/director Melini knows how to handle a camera and is able to hold your attention for as long as need be" - "Director Davide Melini builds the tension with ease as the film slowly builds up to its shocking climax" - "The concept is brilliant and it’s portrayed very well" - "It’s a shame that the film is so short as it kinds of ends just as it gets going. But this is the sign of a good film maker when their creations leave you wanting more" - "The piano-laden montages are the most enjoyable parts for me, which are complete with rotating camera shots and brief moments of black and white" - "Ce court-métrage mélange un côté thriller, mais également un côté poétique (ce qu’on retrouve dans tous les courts-métrage de ce réalisateur).

"The Puzzle', for me, means “the fate”. Every one of us makes some puzzles in our life. We can try to make them fit the way we want, but there will be always a piece that doesn’t fit".
